70 days of Islamic State terrorist attacks in West Africa
Analysis and translation of Al-Naba News Paper 454 infographic.
On 2 August 2024, all channels of the Islamic State terrorist group published, as every Thursday, the new issue of its weekly al-Naba. In this case, in issue 454, the organisation published a detailed infographic showing the collection and results of terrorist attacks conducted from 23 May to 31 July 2024 from its West Africa Province (ISWAP).
Thus, the Islamic State (IS) claimed to have conducted 100 in the period mentioned above and to have killed and wounded 276 soldiers and civilians.
The Islamic State specifies that the areas in which it operated were: Nigeria, Niger and Cameroon, targeting the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Nigerian armed forces, Niger armed forces, pro-government militias and Christian civilians.
For the sake of the record, it is possible that IS slightly inflated the figures provided. However, it has been established over the years that the statistics provided by IS are realistic and fairly accurate, especially concerning the number of attacks conducted.
The Islamic State provides details on the areas where they were conducted, the manner of attack, the targets and the damage caused.
The infographic shows in detail the areas where the attacks were conducted, the number of attacks and the casualties caused, as listed below:
The Islamic State also specifies how it conducted the attacks, claiming the use of ambushes (3), Inghimasi and Itsisshadi attacks (1), direct armed assaults and clashes (42), targeted assassinations (4), use of improvised explosive devices (27), various other operations (19), and parked car bombs (2).
Finally, the infographic shows the type of targets hit to cause the military mentioned above and civilian casualties:
Destruction of four-wheeled vehicles (18), armoured vehicles (70), and various others (5).
