One of the branches of al-Qaeda that is managing to expand strongly is Jama'at Nusrat ul-Islam wa al-Muslimin (JNIM), a 'Support Group for Islam and Muslims' operating in the Sahel, mainly Mali and Burkina Faso, but in 2022 and the first two months of 2023, Benin, Niger, Togo, Côte d'Ivoire and its expansion also aims to reach Senegal, Ghana, Mauritania and Guinea.
The expansion is due both to its military strength but also to the role of protector that it is assuming, and showing in propaganda, towards different communities, thus increasing recruitment.
Over the past few days, JNIM, via its official az-Zallaqa Media channel, has published two lengthy videos. The first one was released on 17 February 2023, entitled: “Prepare for them”, 12:39 minutes long, the second one was released on 19 February, 16:54 minutes long entitled: “Raid on two barracks in Burkina Faso”.
