Six months of Islamic State terrorist attacks
Analysis of the infographic by the Amaq News Agency for the first 6 months of 2025
On 4 July 2025, all channels of the Islamic State terrorist group released a detailed infographic via the Amaq News Agency, showing the harvests and results of the organisation's attacks from 1 January to 30 June 2025.
The Islamic State (IS) claimed that for the first six months of 2025, it conducted 620 attacks that killed and wounded 3193 military personnel and civilians.
The Islamic State specifies that among the military, 49 are officers and commanders.
*I’d like to point out that IS may have slightly inflated the data provided. Still, over the years, it has been established that the data provided by IS is realistic and quite accurate, especially those concerning the number of attacks conducted.
The Islamic State details the areas where they were conducted, the manner of attack, the targets and the damage caused.
The infographic shows in detail the countries (13) in which the attacks were conducted (no attacks were carried out in the provinces of Yemen and East Asia [Philippines], in the first six months of 2025.
The number of attacks and the victims caused, as listed below:
Number Attacks (in brackets the number of deaths and injuries caused according to IS):
Cameroon: 18 (76)
Burkina Faso: 2 (25)
Mali: 5 (59)
Somalia: 135 (1171)
Niger: 21 (233)
DR Congo: 100 (472)
Mozambique: 56 (178)
Afghanistan: 10 (84)
Iraq: 4 (19)
Syria: 44 (82)
Nigeria: 215 (734)
Pakistan: 7 (42)
Uganda: 3 (18)
As was already evident from the claims, videos, photo reports and other propaganda material published in the previous months, it was clear that Africa is the area most affected, especially Nigeria, Somalia, DR Congo and Mozambique, with strong growth in the Sahel region over the last two months.
The Islamic State also specifies how it conducted the attacks, claiming the use of Ambushes (31), Inghimasi and Itsisshadi attacks (7), Assaults and direct armed confrontations (271), Targeted Assaults (12), use of IEDs (167) and various other operations (129).
Finally, the infographic shows the type of targets hit to cause the above-mentioned military and civilian casualties:
Destruction of vehicles (330), hijacked vehicles (59), destruction and burning of houses and shops (863), helicopters and drones (1), Barracks and camps (59) and churches (18).
IS specifies that 29 people were also taken prisoner in the attacks.
