Six months of Islamic State terrorist attacks
Amaq News Agency infographic analysis and translation.
On 2 July 2024, all channels of the Islamic State terrorist group released via Amaq News Agency a detailed infographic showing the harvests and results of the organisation's attacks from 1 January to 30 June 2024.
The Islamic State (IS) claimed for the first six months of 2024 it conducted 788 attacks that killed and wounded 3749 military personnel and civilians.
The Islamic State specifies that among the military, 51 are officers and commanders.
It is important to point out that IS may have slightly inflated the data provided. Still, over the years it has been established that the data provided by IS is realistic and quite accurate, especially those concerning the number of attacks conducted.
The Islamic State details the areas where they were conducted, the manner of attack, the targets and the damage caused.
The infographic shows in detail the countries (16) in which the attacks were conducted, the number of attacks and the victims caused, as listed below:
Number Attacks (in brackets the number of deaths and injuries caused according to IS):
Cameroon: 14 (40)
Philippines: 9 (33)
Burkina Faso: 10 (62)
Russia: 1 (500)
Mali: 24 (180)
Somalia: 14 (128)
Niger: 39 (224)
Turkey: 1 (2)
DR Congo: 135 (762)
Mozambique: 68 (137)
Afghanistan: 12 (138)
Iran: 1 (303)
Iraq: 53 (96)
Syria: 156 (393)
Nigeria: 232 (609)
Pakistan: 19 (142).
As was already evident from the claims, videos, photo reports and other propaganda material published in the previous months, it was clear that Africa is the area most affected, especially Nigeria, DR Congo and Mozambique, where attacks on Christians have increased considerably (one of IS's four military strategies involves precisely the attack on Christians, as well as the campaign against Shiites that has been carried out in Iran and Afghanistan).
The Islamic State also specifies how it conducted the attacks, claiming the use of Ambushes (59) Inghimasi and Itsisshadi attacks (11), Assaults and direct armed confrontations (385), Targeted Assaults (51), use of IEDs (161) and various other operations (121).
Finally, the infographic shows the type of targets hit to cause the above-mentioned military and civilian casualties:
Destruction of vehicles (202), hijacked vehicles (25), destruction and burning of houses and shops (1440), helicopters and drones (3) Barracks and churches (47).
IS specifies that 53 people were also taken prisoner in the attacks.
