On 31 July 2022, a US drone strike killed al-Qaeda (AQ) leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in the Afghan capital Kabul. Al-Zawahiri appears to have lived in a house belonging to an individual linked to the family of the powerful Taliban Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani.
