AQAP launches major new attack and publishes photos
"Arrows of Truth" campaign continues.
Yesterday, Aug. 2, 2023, al-Malahem Media, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), issued a statement announcing a new attack, as part of the “Arrows of Truth” military campaign1, which began in September 2022, conducted against a camp of the Security Belt Forces (SBF), paramilitary forces of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), supported and funded by the United Arab Emirates, in the Wadi Omran area of Mudiya district, Abyan governorate, southern Yemen. (AQAP refers to SBFs as “mercenaries of the UAE”).
The attack was conducted on July 31, started at night, and ended after several hours at dawn. The attack was conducted with relentless mortar launches and followed by the use of rocket-propelled grenades, RPGs and finally with a direct assault on the camp.
AQAP claims that its members seized the site, called by the jihadist group “al-Madiq” killed 7 soldiers and wounded 9 and controlled the site several times, which was necessary to raid and capture the military equipment and vehicles present. Al-Malahem released 15 photos to show the results of the attack.
AQAP seized two Land Cruisers used as military vehicles with techniques, a 14.7-calibre machine gun, a PK GPMG machine gun, a grenade launcher, a Sageg RPG, Type-56-1 rifles, HMGs (KPV, W-85), and numerous ammunition.
The attack was confirmed by the spokesman for the southern forces, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Al-Naqeeb, who claimed, however, that 6 soldiers were killed and 5 others were wounded in the attack: “Units of the government forces, stationed in the districts of Wadi Omran in Mudiyah in Abyan, were hit by a large-scale attack by al Qaeda gunmen approaching from several directions. The assault continued for several hours”.
The spokesman also added that AQAP militants infiltrated the area through the Al-Bayda governorate.
