Al-Qaeda (AQ)
Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), known locally as Ansar al-Sharia, released 2 statements claiming responsibility for an IED and Sniper attacks against the Security Belt Forces and Shabwa Defence Forces in the governorates of Abyan and Shabwa. Yemen
Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), known locally as Ansar al-Sharia, released a 0:40-minute video showing a sniper attack against Shabwa Defence Forces in the Al-Musina’a area of Shabwa governorate, Yemen.
Al-Malahem Media, Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), released a two-page statement denying any connection to the cell accused of carrying out the terrorist attack in Marib, calling the accusations “unfair and false” and denying any alliance or collaboration with the Houthis.
AQAP’s statement was issued in response to claims by Yemeni security forces in Marib regarding its connection to a Houthi cell accused of planting explosive devices and attempting attacks against public figures and military commanders in Marib. AQAP categorically denied any connection to this cell, stating that the accusations spread by the special forces and police in Marib are “false accusations without any evidence.” The group emphasised that it has no ties to the Houthis movement, let alone joint operations to carry out explosions within Marib, calling such accusations “injustice and slander.” It added that the Marib forces “ignore the group’s clear position in the fight against the Houthis and the open confrontation that has been going on for many years.” In the statement, AQAP recalls extensive military operations against the Houthis, from the first wars in Kataf, then on the fronts of Amran, Arhab, al-Jawf, Bayda, Aden, and Abyan, to the fronts of Shabwa and Marib itself, “whose plains and mountains testify that we have been and remain an insurmountable barrier to the Houthis.” The group stated that any meeting or coordination with the Houthis is impossible. The group stressed that it maintains a policy of calm and security in Marib and will continue to follow it “except in cases of self-defence.” According to them, this approach aims “to protect the public interests of the inhabitants of Marib, the safety of displaced persons from all provinces of Yemen, and respect for the tribes of the province who have shown generosity and courage.” The group addressed the tribes of Marib, stating that they had suffered numerous attacks, violations, and plots perpetrated against them by government forces in the administrative complex “in collaboration with the US day and night.” It noted that the number of American attacks against its fighters is “high and continuous,” and that these operations, according to them, are controlled by Israeli Mossad and CIA officers, as well as officers from two other Arab coalition member states. The group claims that the command centres for these operations, as well as the intelligence and drone control systems, are located within the administrative complex and in a series of military fortifications in the province of Marib. The group stated that the objective of these operations is “to kill the sons of Yemen and violate the sanctity of their homes,” stressing that “these facts have become known to the tribes of Marib.” Concluding the statement, the group stressed that victory over the Houthis will not come “from the US or those who follow in its orbit,” warning that “the presence of the Americans and those who serve them among us is an evil and a disaster that can lead to divine punishment if it is not rejected and stopped.” AQAP added that silence in the face of American attacks against the group is “an unacceptable betrayal,” pointing out that its fighters sacrifice their lives to protect the Yemeni people, “while no voices of protest are heard against the American bombings.” Yemen.
